Tech Pack Refinement for Print & Hoodie

Client: 444 Racing Co
Project: Hoodie Technical Drawing & Print Optimisation

The Challenge

444 Racing Co had the design. What they didn't have was a tech pack that could survive the trip to an overseas factory.

This is where a lot of brands come unstuck. A design that looks right on screen doesn't automatically translate into something a supplier can produce accurately, especially when there's language, distance and interpretation sitting between the brief and the machine. Gaps in a tech pack don't come back as questions. They come back as sampling rounds, wrong garments, and delays.

The print added a second layer of difficulty. Complex placement across a graded size run means the artwork can't simply be scaled up and down. Every size needs the print sitting correctly relative to seams, panels and body proportions, and the tolerances on that are tight.

The Process

We rebuilt the tech pack so the supplier had one document to work from with nothing left open to interpretation.

Key Steps:

  • Tech Pack Audit
Went through the existing pack and identified where a factory would have to make assumptions. Those assumptions are where cost and delay come from.

  • Technical Drawing Revision
Redrew the hoodie technicals to a standard built for overseas manufacturing, with construction detail, callouts and specification laid out the way a supplier expects to receive them. (Anything specific worth naming here: construction details, trims, measurement specs?)

  • Print File Correction
Fixed the print artwork for production, resolving the issues that would have caused problems at output stage. (What was actually wrong: resolution, colour separation, trapping? Worth a specific line, it's the difference between sounding capable and sounding vague.)

  • Print Scaling Across Size Grading
Worked the print across the full size run so placement stays correct at every size rather than drifting as the garment grows. With complex artwork and tight tolerances, this is the detail that separates a clean production run from a sampling nightmare.

  • Production-Ready Handover
Delivered a pack the client owns outright and can send to any supplier.

The Result

444 Racing Co walked away with more than a fixed file. They have a production-ready system they can keep using, which means they can run hoodie drops with complex prints and demanding placement without the tech pack being the bottleneck every time.

We've since worked with 444 Racing Co on two further projects that we're looking forward to showing once they announce them.
